71st Emmy Awards
The 71st Emmy Awards aired live on FOX from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The final season of Game of Thrones led the pack of nominations with 32, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel grabbed 20 nominations, HBO tipped the scales with a whopping 137 nominations, and Netflix came close behind with 117.
What was supposed to be missing from the 71st Emmy Awards was a host, but Homer Simpson, Anthony Anderson, and Bryan Cranston opened the broadcast in rare form.
Homer Simpson started out as the host of the Emmys. His animated figure walked on the stage and the audience looked puzzled. Then a grand piano fell from the ceiling and smashed Homer straight through the stage floor. Again, the audience was puzzled.
Anthony Anderson, sitting in the audience with a look of shock on his face said, “What the hell is going on?” Anthony then jumped on stage out of the audience to save the show.
He said, “We are going without a host tonight.” Anthony went to a shelf of Emmy statues backstage and said they won’t miss one and started handing the trophies to his mother to put in her pocketbook.
Anthony finally pushed Bryan Cranston from backstage on the stage to deliver an Emmy monologue. He ended with, “and television has never been this damn good.”
Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert then shared how they can’t fathom the program without a host.
