2020 Oscars Owned By Parasite
The 2020 Oscars aired live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and carried on the tradition of awards shows without a host.
The 92nd Academy Awards honored the best films of 2019 and opened with Janelle Monáe performing Mr. Roger’s song, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. She came into the audience and sang to Tom Hanks and the first row of stars before putting her hat on Tom Hanks’ head.
Janelle said, ‘Tonight we celebrate the art of storytelling,” and went into a huge stage performance joined by Billy Porter of the song, Come Alive. Janelle also said, “I am so proud to stand here as a Black, queer artist. Welcome to Black History Month.” “Welcome to the 2020 Oscars!”

Steve Martin and Chris Rock started off the festivities. Steve said, “We have both hosted the Oscars before and this is such an incredible demotion.”
They joked about the failed Iowa Caucus app before Chris Rock called out Mahershala Ali in the audience and said, Mahershala has two Oscars, you know what that means when the cops pull him over? Nothing.”
Chris Rock also told Martin Scorsese, “I loved the first season of the Irishman.” They both joked that women nominees were missing from the category of Best Director by saying, “Vaginas were missing from the category of Best Director.”
Chris Rock then focused on Cynthia Erivo in the audience and said, “Cynthia, was so good at hiding slaves that the Academy got her to hide all the Black nominees.”
Steve said they had a great time not hosting tonight and introduced Regina King to announce the nominees for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. The 2020 Oscar went to Brad Pitt for Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood. Brad was humble and happy and said, “Look for the best in people. Expect the worst but look for the best.” He thanked his cast, the other actors in his category, and stunt crews. Brad said, “Once upon a time in Hollywood, ain’t that the truth.” He ended his acceptance speech by telling his kids he adores them.
• Best Animated Feature Film 2020 Oscar went to Toy Story 4.
• 2020 Oscar for Best Animated Short Film went to Hair Love.
Into the Unknown was performed by Idina Menzel from the ever-popular Frozen 2.
Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves were the next presenters for the category Best Original Screen. Diane dropped the envelope before making Keanu say the 2020 Oscar went to Parasite. Director Bong Joon Ho said, “Thank you, great honor” in English before finishing his speech in this native language.
• Best Adapted Screenplay 2020 Oscar went to Jojo Rabbit.
• Best Live Action Short Film 2020 Oscar went to The Neighbors’ Window.
Myra Rudolph and Kristen Wig presented the nominees for Achievement in Production Design. They were hilarious. The 2020 Oscar went to Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood. The ladies also announced the nominees for Achievement in Costume Design and the Oscar went to Little Women.
• Best Documentary Feature 2020 Oscar went to America Factory.
• Best Documentary Short Subject 2020 Oscar went to Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl).
Mahershala Ali presented the nominees for Best Supporting Actress. The 2020 Oscar went to Laura Dern for Marriage Story. Laura thanked the Academy, Netflix, the cast and crew. She gave a special thank you to her stepchildren and her parents, Diana Ladd and Bruce Dern. “Thank you all for this gift. It’s the best birthday present ever.”
Lin-Manuel Miranda discussed the importance of song and how songs transform a film. A video of several Oscar-winning songs followed before rapper Eminem performed Lose Yourself from the soundtrack 8 Mile. Eminem won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 75th Academy Awards for the song.
• Best Sound Editing Oscar went to Ford v Ferrari.
• Best Sound Mixing Oscar went to 1917.
Randy Newman performed I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away from Toy Story 4.
Julia Louis Dreyfus and Will Ferrell presented the nominees for Achievement in Cinematography. The 2020 Oscars went to Roger Deakins for 1917. They also announced the nominees for Best Film Editing and the Oscar went to Ford v Ferrari.
David Rubin, Academy President brought Oscar winner Tom Hanks to the stage to announce a museum in the works that is dedicated to the arts and sciences and that the museum, the Academy Museum of Motions Pictures will open this year.
Cynthia Erivo, double Oscar nominee performed her powerful Oscar-nominated song Stand Up from HARRIET. The audience gave her a hearty standing ovation.
Rebel Wilson and James Corden came out dressed as their characters from the movie Cats and said no one understands more than them the importance of, “Good visual effects.” We all know Cats was panned for its visual effects. The 2020 Oscar for Best Visual Effects went to 1917.

Parasite won the 2020 Oscar for International Feature Film. The first winner under the newly named category. Bong Joon Ho was having a great night. He called for the audience to applaud the cast and crew of Parasite in the audience and ended his acceptance speech with, “I’m going to drink tonight.”
• Elton John performed I’m Gonna Love Me Again.
• Best Original Score 2020 Oscar went to The Joker.
Best Original Song 2020 Oscar went to Elton John and Taron Egerton for “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” from Rocketman. Taron said, “This doesn’t suck.” Elton said, “Thank you to the Academy,” and he thanked his kids saying, “Daddy loves you.”
Spike Lee took the stage to announce the nominees for Best Director. The 2020 Oscar went to Bong Joon Ho for Parasite. The applause was huge. He applauded the great work of Martin Scorsese and had the entire audience stand and applauded and honor Martin. He also called out Quentin Tarantino for his craft and how he admires him.
Steven Spielberg introduced the In Memoriam segment and Billie Eilish performed yesterday.
The 2020 Best Actor Oscar went to Joaquin Phoenix for Joker. “I do not feel elevated above any of the nominees.” His speech was very serious and said the arts allow them, “The opportunity to be a voice for the voiceless.” He discussed the fight against injustice and rambled a bit about the environment. “So many of you in this room have given me a second chance.” He appeared confused and ended with, “Love and peace will follow.”
Rami Malek announced the nominees for Best Actress. The 2020 Oscar went to Renee Zellweger for Judy. She thanked the Academy and honored her fellow nominees. She also thanked the cast and crew and much more before closing.
Jane Fonda announced the Best Picture Award. The 2020 Oscar went to Parasite. The Parasite owned the 2020 Oscars with six nominations and four wins. It is also the first foreign film to ever win Best Picture.
Jane Fonda closed the night out for the 92nd Academy Awards. Congratulations to all of the 2020 Oscars winners.
