At just nine years old, actress and author Quvenzhané Wallis became an Oscar nominee. She starred as the character Hushpuppy in the film, Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) and was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award.
Just a year later she captured a role in 12 Years a Slave (2013) and followed that role by starring as Annie Bennett in Annie (2014). The role Quvenzhané earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
Her career milestones are many, and now fast forward to 2024, and Quvenzhané Wallis is co-starring with Jennifer Hudson in the new film, Breathe, a sci-fi thriller portraying life in a world without air.
Tanya Hart caught up with Quvenzhané Wallis to discuss this new role.
Quvenzhané Wallis is also known for voicing the character Harper in the animated film Trolls (2016), and Kyra in the television sitcom Black-ish (2019).
Quvenzhané has also published four children’s books, Shai & Emmie Star in Break an Egg!, A Night Out with Mama, Shai & Emmie Star in Dancy Pants! and Shai & Emmie Star in To the Rescue!
