94th OSCARS
The 94th Oscars® was held at the Dolby® Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood and aired live on ABC, worldwide.
Powerhouse producer Will Packer produced the 94th Oscars®. Packer is one of the most prominent Black producers in Hollywood with a career that is nearly three decades-long. His films have grossed more than one billion dollars worldwide and include ten, number one box-office hits. Girls Trip, Think Like a Man, Ride Along, and Stomp the Yard.
Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes hosted the festivities, and the 94th Oscar ceremony opened with Venus and Serena Williams introducing Beyoncé’s performance of Be Alive from King Richard.
DJ Khaled took the stage to “properly” introduce the ladies hosting the show. Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall took over and did the opening monologue. Regina remarked that everyone was tired of Covid, “We’ve been dealing with Covid for two years.”
Amy joked that the Golden Globes were dead, “They didn’t have any Black members.”
Wanda Sykes joked about the movie The Power of the Dog, “I watched that movie three times and I’m halfway through it.”
“Welcome everybody to the Oscars!”
Amy took the stage and did her stand-up act on the nominated movies and actors before introducing Daniel Kaluuya and H.E.R. to announce the nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. The Oscar went to Ariana DeBose for West Side Story. Her first. “What is this!” “Even in this weird world that we live in dreams do come true.” Thank you, Steven Spielberg! You’re stuck with me now.” She ended up speaking about her sexuality and encouraging others by saying she’s an “Openly Queer woman who found herself through art.”
Regina took over hosting duties and pulled men out of the audience under the pretense of having a bad Covid test when she was pulling them up because she was single and looking.
Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin took the stage and Regina pat both down for Covid. After she gave the “all clear” the duo announced the nominees for Achievement in Sound. The Oscar went to Mac Ruth, Mark Mangini, Theo Green, Doug Hemphill, and Ron Bartlett for Dune.
Celebrating White Men Can’t Jump Westly Snipes, Rosie Perez, and Woody Harrelson announced the nominees for Achievement in Cinematography. The Oscar went to Greig Fraser for Dune.
The next category was Achievement in Visual Effects the Oscar went to Dune.
The original song Dos Oruguitas from Encanto was performed by Sebastian Yatra. Followed by the next category, Best Animated Feature Film. The Oscar went to Encanto Jared Bush, Byron Howard, Yvett Merino, and Clark Spencer.
The Oscar for Best Animated Short Film went to The Windshield Wiper
Alberto Mielgo and Leo Sanchez.
Wanda came back for the first time to go on a tour of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Her jokes were hilarious.
The Oscar for Actor in a Supporting Role went to Troy Kotsur in CODA. He is the second deaf actor to win. “I cannot believe I’m here. Thank you to the Academy for recognizing my work.” He received a standing ovation with the audience signing applause.
Tiffany Haddish and Simu Liu presented for International Feature Film and the Oscar went to Drive My Car, Japan.
Reba McEntire performed Some How You Do from the motion picture Four Good Days.
The Oscars presented a moment of silents in honor of the struggle of the people of Ukraine fighting an unprovoked war. Mila Kunis spoke on their behalf.
The Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film went to The Long Goodbye, Aneil Karia, and Riz Ahmed.
The Oscar for Achievement in Custom Design went to Jenny Beavan for Cruella. She was the first to be played off by music.
John Leguizamo was full of jokes and said, “Brown don’t break down” as he introduced the performance of We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Encanto. Meghan Thee Stallion joined in.
Wanda Sykes came out as a ball boy with a shopping cart full of tennis balls. Regina joined in and was supposed to be Venus but came out as Tammy Faye. Amy came down from the ceiling dressed in a Superman costume.
Original Screenplay was next, and the Oscar went to Kenneth Branagh for Belfast.
Shawn Mendez and Tracey Ellis Ross announced the nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay and the Oscar went to Siân Heder for CODA.
Rami Malek introduced the performance by Billy Eilish and Finneas of No Time To Die.
The Oscar for Achievement in Film Editing went to Joe Walker for Dune.
Regina and Wanda went into the audience to give out consolation prizes so you can be a winner when you’re not. They gave out a Texas voter registration form and several other coveted prizes. The ladies then introduced Chris Rock to introduce the nominees for Best Document, but Chris made a joke about Jada Smith’s hair and Will Smith came out of the audience and slapped Chris Rock right in the face. Chris said, “Will Smith just slapped the shit out of me.” It was very surprising, but Chris said, “Let’s go on.” The category was Best Documentary. The Oscar went to Summer of Soul Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Joseph Patel, Robert Fyvolent, and David Dinerstein. Questlove got very emotional during his acceptance speech. “This is not just a 1969 film about people who were marginalized in Harlem.” He got emotional again. “I am so happy right now I could cry.”
Shawn Diddy Combs was next. He congratulated the ladies for hosting the broadcast. He introduced the tribute to the God Father on its 50th anniversary.
Diddy brought Francis Ford Copal, Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino to the stage to take a bow. Copal ended the acceptance speech with, “Via Ukraine!”
Tyler Perry honored Sidney Poitier at the beginning of the In Memoriam segment. Bill Murray honored Ivan Reitman and his career during the In Memoriam memories, and Jamie Curtis honored Betty White during In Memoriam.
The Oscar for Achievement in Production Design went to Dune.
The Oscar for Original Song went to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for No Time To Die. “Wow, oh my God!” “Thank you for making our song worthy of James Bond.”
Kevin Costner arrived to announce the nominees for Achievement in Directing, and the Oscar went to Jane Campion for The Power of the Dog. She read her acceptance speech and remembered everyone she wanted to thank. “Thank you, Academy. It’s a lifetime honor.”
Oscar-winner Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, and Uma Thurman came to celebrate the anniversary of Pulp Fiction and to announce the nominees for Actor in a Leading Role. The Oscar went to Will Smith for “King Richard”
“Richard Williams was a fears defender of his family” “I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world.” “I am being called on in my life to love pope, to protect people, and be a river to my people.” He started to cry. “I want to be a vessel of love.” He said he wanted to apologize to his fellow nominees and the academy. “I am not crying for winning an award. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people … the entire Williams family.” His speech was long. He ended it with, “I hope the Academy invites me back.”
Anthony Hopkins announced the nominees for Actress in a Leading Role. The Oscar went to Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. “Thank you to the Academy for this.” She thanked the other nominees, cast, crew, producers, and her onscreen partner. She spoke on suicide and bigoted legislation. “Thank you all very, very much.”
Lady Gaga and Liza Minnelli presented together. Liza was in a wheelchair and could not get to the middle of the stage, so they presented the nominees from stage right. The Oscar for Best Picture went to CODA. CODA won all three Oscar it was nominated for.
The ladies came back in pajamas to close the show, “Goodnight!”
