The 2021 Golden Globes was produced entirely virtual and broadcasted from the East and West coast. The dynamic duo, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned for the fourth time, after hosting in 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Tina Fey took the stage from the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center and Amy Poehler was positioned at the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton in L.A. The audience was virtual, and a masked audience of essential workers was seated on set at each location.

The program opened with the ladies taking the stage in a split-screen from both locations. During their stand-up open, Tina mentioned that the Globes have no Black members. The Globes are being slammed for have no Black members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The ladies rolled smoothly from one joke to another and Amy brought the issue back to the lack of Black members and said the Foreign Press must change this.

At the end of their open, Tina said, “Here we go guys are you ready?” And introduced Laura Duran to the stage as the first presenter of the evening.

The category was Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture and the winner was Daniel Kaluuya for Judas and the Black Messiah. His audio was gone, and Laura accepted the award for him until his audio popped in and he jumped into this speech.

“I’d like to thank our leader King” for his vision. He also thanked Warner Bros, and the cast. He said he gave everything to this role. “He taught me about myself.” “Thank you so much for this honor …  Appreciated you.”

Angela Basset was the next presenter. The category, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. The Golden Globe went to John Boyega for Small Axe.

Christian Slater followed to present the nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The Golden Globe went to Catherine O’Hara for Schitt’s Creek. She accepted the award virtually with all the nominees. During her acceptance speech, they jokingly played music to play her off the virtual stage.

Tiffany Haddish came next for the category of Best Motion Picture – Animated. The nominees were The Croods: A New Age, Onward, Over the Moon, Soul, and Wolfwalkers. The Globe went to Soul by Walt Disney Pictures.

The next category was for Best Actor in a Limited Series, and the Golden Globe went to Mark Ruffalo for I Know This Much Is True

He gave his speech from home with his wife and children hugging and loving on him. “All this sadness and lost that we have all lived through is greater than what keeps up apart’. “Let’s be courageous together …” “Let’s do this … I love you.

Cynthia Erivo was up next to announce the winner of the Best Screenplay – Motion Picture award.The nominees were Promising Young Woman, Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, and Nomadland. The Golden Globe went to The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Amy called Maya Rudolph and Kenan Thompson playing kooky characters to pretend to be the worst acceptance speech ever. They delivered; they were the worst.

Spike Lee’s children, Satchel and Jackson Lee got a chance to say a few words on the stage. They were named 2021 Golden Globes Ambassadors.

Norman Lear was awarded the Carol Burnett Award. Lear is a television pioneer, political activist, philanthropist, and the third-ever recipient of the honor. Norman appeared virtually to accept the award. “Thank you for this wonderful night.” “I could not feel more blessed.” He called out several people he considered great talents. He thanked Sony Pictures, and his family and wife of 30 years, five daughters and a son, and four grandchildren. He also thanked the Hollywood Press and Carol Burnett. He pulled his ear like Carol and said, “So glad we had this time together.”

Best Actress in a Television Series Drama was the next category, and the Golden Globe went to Emma Corrin for The Crown.

Tracy Morgan was the next presenter for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe went to Io Si for The Life Ahead on Netflix, Diane Warren, Laura Pausini, Niccolò Agliardi.

Tracy also announced the winner for Best Original Score. The Golden Globe went to Soul by Pixar, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Jon Batiste.

Sterling K. Brown and Susan Watson came to the stage and said it is great to be Black at the Golden Globes.” Then acted like he made a mistake and said, “Back at the Golden Globes.” Sterling was among those leading the charge in regards to the lack of representation within the Hollywood Foreign Press.

Best Actor Television Series, Musical or Comedy was the next category. The Nominees were Don Cheadle for Black Monday, Nicholas Hoult for The Great, Eugene Levy for Schitt’s Creek, Jason Sudeikis for Ted Lasso, and Ramy Youssef for Ramy. The Golden Globe went to Jason Sudeikis for Ted Lasso.

Jason ended his acceptance speech with, “Thank you! I appreciate you guys and shout out to the other nominees.”

Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy was next, and Schitt’s Creek (CBC) took the Golden Globe home.

Ben Stiller came to the stage in New York and received a huge round of applause. He talked about all the things he did in quarantine, including bake. He said he baked this thing he had in the shape of a Golden Globe. He took a bite out of it and began choking on it as he announced the nominees. His category was Best Actress in a Motion Picture or a Comedy. Maria Bakalova, Kate Hudson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Rosamund Pike were the nominees. The Golden Globe went to Rosamund Pike for I Care a Lot.

Anthony Anderson was up next with the nominees for Best Actor in a Television Series or Drama, and the Golden Globe went to Josh O’Connor for The Crown.

Tina and Amy came back to mention all the things they thought were messy about the program so far before saying the Globes offered actors and actresses telemedicine counseling based on storylines.

The category for Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language was next and the Golden Globe went to Minari (A24).

Kenan Thompson announced the shows for the Best Television Series Drama category. The nominees were The Crown, Lovecraft Country, The Mandalorian, Ozark and Ratched. The Golden Globe went to The Crown.

Jane Fonda was awarded the Cecil B. deMille Award. She took the stage to accept the honor. She thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press and said she was so honored to receive the award. During her acceptance speech, she spoke about feeling a deepened empathy for African Americans and the struggles in the industry. “Let’s all of us … make an effort to expand that tent so that everyone rises, and everyone stays in step.” So, let’s be leaders. Thank you, thank you so much.”

Jamie Lee Curtis took the stage and to announce the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. The Golden Globe went to Jodie Foster for The Mauritanian. She accepted her award from home with her wife, Alexandra Hedison.

  • Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television went to Gillian Anderson for The Crown.
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television went to Anya Taylor-Joy for The Queen’s Gambit

Rene Zellweger announced the nominations for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, and the Golden Globe went to Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

His wife, Taylor Simone cried through the entire acceptance speech she delivered for him. “He would say something beautiful, something inspiring.” And she listed all the people he would thank. You could not watch this without crying too. RIP Chadwick.

For the first time in Globe history, three women were nominated in the Best Director – Motion Picture category. The nominees were Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman, David Fincher for Mank, Regina King for One Night in Miami, Aaron Sorkin for The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Chloé Zhao for Nomadland. The Golden Globe went to Chloé Zhao for Nomadland.

The Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy went to Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Sacha Baron Cohen.

Awkwafina announced the nominees for Best Actor – Musical or Comedy and the Golden Globe went to Sacha Baron Cohen for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

Wakem Phonix announced Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and the Golden Globe went to Andra Day for The United States vs. Billie Holiday. She broke out in tears but got through her acceptance speech surrounded by family and friends.

Micheal Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones presented the nominees for Best Motion Picture – Drama and the Golden Globe went to Nomadland.
