The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards hosted by Sebastian Maniscalco aired live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Sebastian is a comedian, actor and best-selling author, and hosted this year’s VMAs after a host-less ceremony in 2018.

Sebastian took the stage after Taylor’s performance. He said the smoke on the stage wasn’t because he was trying to make a cool entrance, but it was because his mother was cooking zucchini backstage for 20,000 people.

Sebastian mentioned that there are a lot of feuds and shade in the music industry. “I just found out what shade was this week,” and said that only one trophy per category will be given out this year. “Not everyone is going to get a trophy tonight. No participation ribbons tonight. If you don’t win tonight next year work harder.”
