The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards was crazy right out the box! The show opened with a group of dances
Next up was Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performing in the streets in true Macklemore style to his hit Downtown. They took over the outdoor stage and worked it hard. It was a great performance.
Miley Cyrus arrived on stage via a slide and welcomed the audience to the VMAs. Mylie said the VMAs had not had a host for two years and will probably stay that way after she is finished hosting. She said that the VMAs probably asked her host just to keep her from performing.
She also said Instagram is her new love and did a video skit with the SNL’s Andy Samberg about the thought process of how her Instagram posts are created. It was just OK. Mile then went to the audience and took a selfie with a selfie stick and said, “Ellen you ain’t got nothing on this.”
Miley then introduced Brittany Spears to announce the nominees for the Best Male Video and Moon Man went Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars for Uptown Funk.
Bruno gave a lively acceptance speech and left no room for anyone else. But he looked like he was already having a good time and feeling no pain.
Miley’s second outfit looked like a barely-there nurses costume and was one of the first outrageous moments. It was followed by The Weeknd performing his hit I Can’t Feel My Face.
Rebel Wilson was s the next presenter and was dressed as a law enforcement officer. She said I know a lot of people have problems with the police, but I really hate police strippers as she ripped her clothes off down to her top. She said police strippers don’t do a good job and she hates the injustice and then introduced the nominees for the Best Hip Hop Video and the Moon Man went to Nicki Minaj for Anaconda.
Nicki danced her way up to the stage as she and Rebel did a bit of twerking when she got there. She started off wild but got soft when she thanked her fans. Then she directed this comment to Miley, “There’s this bitch that had a lot to say about me in the press. Miley, what’s good.”
Miley said, “You all know they say stuff about us in the press.” She also said she lost an award in 2008 and it was no big deal. “Congratulations Niki.”
Was this a real tussle? If it was fake, no one told Miley.
Miley did a video with Tyga and his guys and she said so many bad words that the whole thing had to be bleeped out. It was another bad one.
Nick Jonas and Big Sean were the next presenters for the Best Female Video and the Moon Man went to Taylor Swift for Blank Space. Taylor also won Best Pop Video for Blank Space in the pre-show. The audience gave her thunderous applause and she allowed the director of the video to thank the technical crew.
Miley said a few choice words that needed to be bleeped out live as well before Demi Lovato’s provocative performance of Cool ForThe Summer on the outdoor stage. Demi was also joined by Iggy Azalea for a few bars.
The show kept rolling with a performance by Justin Bieber of Where Are You Now to a screaming audience and then performed What Do You Mean.
Justin also flew during the performance and he looked very emotional at the end of performance like he was crying. Way to feel it, Justin.
Miley returned and said, “Now that I know Justin Bieber can fly!” She then opened her coat to reveal another bare-there ensemble.
Two Empire cast members, Jussie Smollett and Estelle introduced the nominees for the Video With A Social Message and the Moon Man went to Big Sean ft. Kanye West and John Legend for One Man Can Change the World.
They all took the stage, Kanye West, Big Sean, and John Legend. Big Sean thanked Kanye and John for coming together for the song. He also asked the audience to make some noise for Kanye, because Kanye gave him his opportunity and made his dreams come true. John ended by saying it was his first VMA and said, “Thank you Kanye, thank you, Sean.”
In the next video skit, Miley took a moment to eat Mary Jane brownies with Snoop Dogg and he told her he made them with her grandmother. She was supposedly on a bad trip, so bad that Snoop Dogg turned into a pig, literally.
Miley’s next wardrobe change was a rainbow box. She looked like a walking gift and threw to Ne-Yo and Kylie Jenner to introduce Tori Kelly performing Should Have Been Us. What a voice on her. Go, Tori! She got a major standing ovation.
Kanya West received the Video Vanguard Award. His video introduction was very poignant and described him as a visionary and was very moving.
Taylor Swift of all people was chosen to give him the Moon Man. She said his album College Drop Out was the first albums she bought off of iTunes when she was 12 years old. She said she has been a fan of his because he defines music and fashion and ended by teasing him about interrupting her speech and ended by saying, “To my friend Kanye West.” Good VMA moment.
The crowded chanted his name as he stood on the stage. Another great VMA moment.
He let it go on for quite some time. He really soaked it up and they kept giving it to him. He went on so long they started chanting again.
He started his speech by saying,” Bro, bro. Listen to the kids.”
And then added, “Taylor thank you for being so gracious in giving me this award this evening, and I often think about the first day I met you often. I think about it when I’m in the grocery store with my daughter and they say you’re not so bad after all.”
“And when 60 thousand people boo me and I think If I had to do it all again what would I have done?”
“If I had a daughter then would I have grabbed the mike from someone else’s?”
He spoke about the incident at length. He was apologizing and trying to explain himself. He should have stopped sooner than he did. He started with great humility in the beginning but lost it in the end.
Oh my, and he decided to say that he smoked something before he came as he continued his rambling rant. He ended it by announcing that he has decided to run for president in 2020.
Well, that’s Kanye for you. Nothing has changed. He almost had a great moment. Almost.
Miley referred to his weed remark and his nod for president before introducing John Legend in downtown LA who then introduced Pharrell performing Freedom in a huge stage performance. Well, Pharrell provided a great VMA moment.
Rita Ora and Emily Ratajkowski announced the nominees for the Artist to Watch and the Moon Man went to Fetty Wap. He was not there to receive the award, but Rita and Emily accepted for him.
The next performers were Twenty One Pilots With A$AP Rocky.
The producer and star of Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube and his son O’Shea Jackson Jr. came next to announce the winner of the Video of the Year Award, and the VMA went to Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar for Bad Blood.
Taylor Swift had another big night of awards. And she took the stage with her Bad Blood videocast. Taylor said she wanted to thank Kendrick Lamar she wished he was there, but he’s on tour.
Miley had a little wardrobe malfunction. You know she had to! She was also missing the mike when she needed after Taylor’s moment.
But the show ended with a Miley’s big performance and she did every wild thing she wanted to with the cast from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
“My new album is online for free right now. I’ll see you all next year.”
Thank VMA’s. It was one for the books!
